The brief was simple: make a closed 1980s plan work for a family that entertains. Therenovation opened the kitchen straight through to the dining and living rooms, underhigh ceilings and beside a gas fireplace.

A dedicated office, wine room and den were carved out of space the original plan wasted. Thedownstairs primary suite gained vaulted ceilings, dual vanities, a separate tub and shower anda skylight.

Two secondary bedrooms share a fully rebuilt jack-and-jill bath, and the backyard was rebuilt around the pool so summer is the point of the house.
